Duran Duran
Duran Duran is perhaps the ultimate example of the departure that early '80s bands made from
the angry punk movement of the late '70s. Everything about Duran Duran was slick and polished:
their makeup, their hair, their videos, their concerts, and even their music.
They led the new romantic movement into the mainstream, and then turned the volume and tempo up a
notch to win the hearts of teen-aged girls everywhere. There was certainly no lack of Duran Duran
posters and photos on the market, be they promotional pictures, live shots, or that every-day shot
of the serious musician on the beach with his shirt off.
There are people who, to this day, still have Simon Le Bon on their wall. And when some people recount
the most traumatic moments of the 1980s, the Duran Duran boating accident ranks up their with the space
shuttle and the Reagan re-election. Still, despite all the hype and pretty packaging, Duran Duran
produced some music that is still fun to listen to today.
